BoxRay helps you keep track of what is in your boxes. This policy explains what the app stores, why, and what you can do about it. BoxRay is made by Young-Ghee Hong ("we").
What we store
- Your account. Your email address, or the private relay address Apple gives us if you use Sign in with Apple. We use it to sign you in and to contact you about your account.
- What you add. Boxes, items, labels, notes, locations, tags and the photos you take. We keep them so you can see them on any device you sign in on.
- Purchases. If you buy Premium, Apple handles the payment. We receive a record that your account has Premium, not your card details.
- Usage. BoxRay sends a few anonymous usage events to Mixpanel, such as when a box or item is added or a search is used, so we can see which features help. These events use a random ID kept on your device. They never include your account, email, box or item names, photos or search words, and Mixpanel does not keep your IP address. Our website box-ray.com records anonymous visits the same way, including a replay of how the page was scrolled; anything typed into a form is hidden from the recording.
We don't use this data to advertise or track you across apps, and we never sell it.
Photos and the camera
The camera is used only when you take a photo of a box or an item. The background is removed on your phone. The original photo and the cut-out are uploaded to your account so they appear on your other devices.
Naming items for you
If you turn on "Name items for me" (BoxRay asks first, and you can switch it off in Settings), the photo of each new item is sent to OpenAI with your recent item names and tags, so it can suggest a name and tags in your style. OpenAI does not keep this data to train its models. If you don't turn it on, nothing is sent to OpenAI.
Who processes your data
- Supabase hosts our database, sign-in and photo storage.
- Apple processes Sign in with Apple and App Store payments.
- RevenueCat keeps track of your Premium subscription for us. It receives an anonymous account id and your purchase history, not your boxes or photos.
- Mixpanel (analytics) receives the anonymous usage events described above.
- OpenAI suggests names and tags for new items, only if you turn on "Name items for me".
They handle data only to provide these services to us.
How long we keep it
